Master Executive Classes

MASTER EXECUTIVE CLASSES

Network Asset Value

A four-hour class for chief executives of fast-growing technology firms, on the gap between the valuation you expect at your next round and the balance sheet you can actually show for it.

FORMAT

Four hours.

ATTENDANCE

In person or remote.

FOR

CEOs and CFOs.

METHOD

Live case analysis.

THE PROBLEM IT SOLVES

Your most valuable assets are the ones your accounts cannot hold

A high-velocity technology firm approaching a funding round usually knows what it is worth and cannot prove it. The client relationships, the data the business model generates, the community that keeps returning — these are what the buyer is paying for, and none of them appear on the balance sheet in any recognisable form.

GAAP and IFRS were not designed to capture the value of data, network effects or intangible ecosystem position. The result is a company arguing for a number its own accounts contradict.

This class closes that gap. It teaches the methods the largest technology firms have used for two decades to turn intangible assets into stated economic value, and then applies them to the firms in the room.

THE FOUR HOURS

Curriculum

01.

         The Big Tech Playbook

How trillion-dollar balance sheets were built out of intangibles.

  •    Data treated as strategic infrastructure rather than exhaust

  •    Capitalising software development, and the accounting judgement behind it

  •    Monetising network effects across interconnected products

02.

         The Network Asset Value framework

The measurement discipline, and how to run it on your own business.

  •    Connectivity potential and data generation capability

  •    Scalability of the ecosystem and routes to future monetisation

  •    Triangulating the cost, income and market approaches to arrive at a defensible figure

03.

         Forensic case work

A line-by-line reading of the published financial statements of Tesla and Amazon — where the intangible value is recognised, where it is not, and what each firm chose to disclose.

04.

         Implementation

What to do on Monday morning.

  •    Building the data infrastructure and the monetisation pathways off it

  •    Documenting technology investment so it survives audit

  •    Working with advisers who know the intangible-asset rules in your jurisdiction

  •    Reporting the position transparently enough that investors will underwrite it

WHAT MAKES IT A MASTER EXECUTIVE CLASS

Bring your own case

Participants may submit their own company for analysis ahead of the session. Those cases are worked in the room, alongside the published ones, with the same method applied to your numbers.

Cases must be submitted in advance so the preparatory work can be done. Places are limited for that reason.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

Who is it for?

Founders and chief executives

Of fast-growing technology firms approaching a funding round, who need the valuation conversation to rest on something more than conviction.

Chief financial officers

Responsible for presenting a balance sheet that reflects what the business has actually built, and for defending it under diligence.
